Well, do we want to be proton no. 2?

Wat makes you think dat SG cars will b a proton no. 2?
True dat SG has high labour cost. But anyone dat knows business will definately hire "work permit" workers rather than pink IC personnel for the menial jobs ... as for the Technical know-hows and QA, we often tap into foreign Professionals isnt it? those countries with decades of car manufacturing experiences also start from somewhere didnt they? And the fact is they started from SCRATCH. Isnt it ??
Seriously, you'll never know. 10 years ago, who would have thought that SG can have so many pharmaeceutical plants? NO one knows...
IF you say impossible, you're killing the idea.
And you cant argue that there is always this possibility as long as the thought is there

Sorry if I sounded too pessimistic. My opinion was that there are simply too many obstacles to cross in order to achieve what we want. Besides, it's a heavy duty industry that Singapore had started to move away from...

You are right that saying impossible is when we kill an idea right away (even if it was a brilliant one). But most of the time, it's not us who call the shots. Those on top kill the ideas before anything most of the time...

Yes, it's those who are rich and powerful who make the decision. For Singapore, who is richer than the government? May be they can use the money collected from COE to fund this "project"?
